This is a very interesting old church to visit and makes a good stop on the coastal walk, along the Solent Way, from Emsworth to Langstone. It is next to Warblington Castle but that is not open to the public so you can only glimpse views of it from here.There are remnants of a Saxon church here from around 900 AD but the current building largely dates from the 12th century. Don't miss the giant yew tree in the graveyard, which is 1,500 years old! But, for me, the most interesting thing was the upside down ship gravestone. There is no body buried here. Thomas Wiliams drowned when his ship went down in Dublin harbour in 1759 and his wife Elizabeth had this headstone erected here in his local church graveyard, depicting his ship going down. There are information sheets inside the church which help you find your way around. The upside down gravestone is just inside the churchyard, on your right, before you reach the church, as you enter from the east.
